About English as a Second Language Ministries
Serving a multicultural and multi-ethnic community is a passion at North Shore Bible Church. One way we do this is by offering English as a Second Language (ESL) programs. Our program was initiated as an extension of the Hispanic Ministry of Living Stone Church in Chelan, Washington.
As a service to the Hispanic community, our ESL programs serve both Chelan and Manson. We are currently building strong relationships through members of both North Shore Bible and Living Stone church, for learning English and for exhibiting the love and truth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Come be a volunteer teacher this year for teaching English as a Second Language here at Northshore Bible Church to our adult native Spanish speaking neighbors in our community. We have a LOT of fun!
ESL Starts Nov 5th thru March 31st - 6:30 to 8:00 PM
Monday and Wednesday Evenings - Upstairs Classrooms.
The program includes a laptop-based Rosetta Stone component and a book-based conversational time in small groups. There will be teacher orientation on October 19th. You do not need to know Spanish. You just need a heart to help other!
Please call Michael Gibb at 425-239-1715 or email firstname.lastname@example.org Gracias!”
These programs are aimed at non-native English speakers who wish to improve their English language skills.
Talk Time (English Conversation Practice)
We work with other members of the community to provide non-native English speakers a friendly and safe environment to improve English speaking and listening skills as well as ask questions about words, phrases, and colloquial expressions. In each meeting, we present a topic to help focus our conversation.
These topics are specifically meant to provide helpful insight to many of the potentially confusing or intimidating aspects of our culture. Topics have included: banking, 9-1-1 calls, car registration, elections, hospital visits, art, and home hospitality.
Other International Ministries
In addition to teaching ESL classes, we provide other informal and one-on-one assistance to internationals in the community, including:
Providing advocacy and support for those in need of help
Networking with other organizations who offer services for internationals
Opening our hearts and homes to people who are often marginalized, lonely, and in need of genuine friends
Have an interest in volunteering? You do not need to speak Spanish— just have a passion to help the community and assist those who desire to speak English. Contact Carol Zalewski, our ESL Director.
